Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctor of sciences, professor, Russian Government Prize laureate  of Science and Technology, director of the All-Russian Horticultural Institute of Breeding, Agrotechnology and Nursery, member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honorary member of the Moscow society of naturalists, Chairman of the Commission for breeding and nursery of fruit and small fruits crops of the Interdepartmental Coordination council on seed production of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

State awards: medal "For the Transformation of the Non-Black Earth zone of the Russian Federation" (1987), "In Memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow" (1997), "Honored worker of agriculture of the Russian Federation" (1999), Medal "For Labor valor" (2003), the distinction "For Service to the Moscow Region" (2004), the Order of Friendship (2006), Russian Government Prize laureate  of Science and Technology (2013).

Under the leadership of Ivan M. Kulikov  new national standards in the field of horticulture (Planting material of fruit, small-fruit, subtropical, nut-bearing, citrus cultures and tea), Technical conditions GOST R 53135-2008, Material of fruit and small crops planting Terms and definitions GOST R 53044-2008 , Fruit and small fruit crops: Sterile cultures and adapted microplants, The concept of the development of horticulture in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025 and the Strategy for the development of horticulture and nursery of the Russian Federation were developed
